In 2000, Vesak was included in UNESCO calendar, and since then, it has become an international holiday.

April 22 - Earth Day. This day, unlike the Earth Day held in March, brings together people of the world with a purpose of protecting the environment.
The World Earth Day event was established in the United States, on April 22, 1970.
Traditionally on this day, those who are willing, are involved in landscaping and otherwise improving their neighborhoods and streets, as well as in various environmental activities.

The equinoctial Earth Day was proclaimed by the UN Secretary General in March 1971. It is celebrated annually on the vernal equinox and, in following tradition, the Peace Bell is rung that day.
